Getting Started


Welcome to our blog! We’re Jay and Kay, two long time Canadian friends training for our first Ironman in Lanzarote, May 17, 2014:

However, that’s where our similarities end: we live in different countries (Jay in England, Kay in Canada); we have different goals, levels of experience, and approaches to our training. If you’d like to hear more, we’d invite you to follow along as we blog about training leading up to the big event.


In our upcoming posts, we’ll introduce ourselves properly, but suffice to say Jay is the more organized athlete and Kay is a fly-by-the-seat-of-the-pants type. We’re on a similar training 30 week training schedule, now into the last third and most intensive section. Over the next few months, we’ll introduce you to some of the challenges we’ve encountered (wind! rain! low iron levels! blisters!) and the tips and tricks we’ve learned, as we reflect on the highs and lows of it all.

Finally, the Ironman will be a reunion of sorts for us! Even though we keep in touch daily, we live over 7000 km and several times zones apart, so May will be the first time these pals have seen each other in a whole year.
